Naag: National Association Of Attorneys GeneralBy Aretha Singh
The National Association of General (NAAG) was formed in the year 1907. The motive behind the formation of this organization was to provide top-notch legal services in the country as well as giving a common platform for interaction between the General from all the states and territories. It is also meant to aid these individuals and staff members in the performance of their duties.
NAAG focuses on interagency and interstate cooperation to encourage relationships between the General's offices and other organizations, such as law enforcement agencies and other legal offices. At the same time, it tries to facilitate relationships between these agencies by crossing state lines to help with cases of all regards and sizes. The National Association of General is at present headed by the Indiana General, Steve Carter. Its executive committee comprises members from all fifty states including the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Northern Mariana Islands, Guam, US Virgin Islands, and American Samoa.
In 43 states the General are elected. They are appointed by the Governor in five states, American Samoa, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and the Northern Mariana Islands. They are voted into office by the Legislature in Maine. In the District of Columbia, they are appointed by the Mayor, and they are appointed by the state supreme court in Tennessee.
The Attorney General gets to handle lot of matters of concern in all the jurisdictions. This also proves to be an opportunity for interaction with different people at various positions within the state or territory and even neighboring areas. In order to build up on this activity amongst the General, the National Association of General supports the interaction of this sort.
The National Association of General also encourages its members to continue to pursue educational and training opportunities associated with the position. Furthermore, the NAAG provides educational and training opportunities to staff members and aides. These opportunities range from litigation skills, leadership, and management, among others.
There are times when people are not aware of the role and responsibilities of the position of Attorney General. Due to the importance that this information assumes, especially in cases where it's the people who have the right to choose their state's or commonwealth's Attorney General, it is important to brief them about the role. NAAG also briefs the person holding the position of the Attorney General himself.
The location of the main office of the National Association of General on Capitol Hill in the District of Columbia is a prime location because of its proximity to government officials, Congress, governmental agencies, and the U.S. Supreme Court.
If you
